Beach Lifeguard Course on the Gower, South Wales
Want to work on the beach this Summer as a lifeguard or surf coach? Then sign up for the SLSGB SURF LIFEGUARD COURSE with Progress Surf School, the only recognised SLSGB Affiliated Training Centre on the Gower.
The SLSGB Surf Lifeguard award is the UK’S top vocational qualification and the preferred award for working with the RNLI beach lifeguards. The award is also recognised internationally and covers the safety element for working as a Surf Instructor.
Training during the course will involve running, swimming and rescuing casualties through the surf zone and up the beach using rescue boards and rescue tubes. The courses also cover lifeguard and first aid theory, basic life support and spinal management.
To provide a National award for the Beach Lifeguard Course covering; fitness, practical lifeguarding skills & knowledge, rescue, life support & first aid.
Be a minimum of 16 years of age on the date of examination
Be able to swim 400m in under 7min 30 sec. (candidates should be able to complete this before attending the course - not required for Surf coach award)
VALIDITY OF lifeguard Courses & Award
24 months from the date of the examination
This Beach Lifeguarding Award establishes a standard that allows candidates to become full SLSGB Surf Lifeguards, which is Internationally Recognised.
The course is held over 40 hours of training plus 1 day examination by SLSGB Examiners. The course includes a fitness test involving a timed swim of 400m, that must be completed in 7min 30sec. Candidates must be able to achieve this before attending the course.
Cost: £250 including SLSGB membership and assessment fee.
