Beach Lifeguard Course / Surf Coach Safety and Rescue Courses

Want to work on the beach this Summer as a lifeguard or surf coach? Then sign up for the  SLSGB SURF LIFEGUARD COURSE or SURF COACH SAFETY AND RESCUE COURSE with Progress Surf School, the only recognised SLSGB Affiliated Training Centre on the Gower, Swansea.

The SLSGB Surf Lifeguard award is the UK’S top vocational qualification and the preferred award for working with the RNLI beach lifeguards.

The SLSGB Surf Coach Safety covers the safety element for working as a Surf Instructor.

Training during the course will involve running, swimming and rescuing casualties through the surf zone and up the beach using rescue boards and rescue tubes. The courses also cover lifeguard and first aid theory, basic life support and spinal management.

AIM

Surf (Beach) Lifeguard:

To provide a National award for the Beach Lifeguard Course covering; fitness, practical lifeguarding skills & knowledge, rescue, life support & first aid.

Pre- Requisite Surf Lifeguard:
Be a minimum of 16 years of age on the date of examination
Be able to swim 400m in under 7min 30 sec. (candidates should be able to complete this before attending the course).
Be able to handle a rescue board in surf conditions.

VALIDITY OF lifeguard Courses & Award

24 months from the date of the examination

This Beach Lifeguarding Award establishes a standard that allows candidates to become full SLSGB Surf Lifeguards, which is Internationally Recognised.

The course is held over 5 days of training plus 1 day examination by SLSGB Examiners. The course includes a fitness test involving a  timed swim of 400m, that must be completed in 7min 30sec. Candidates must be able to achieve this before attending the course.

Surf Coach Rescue:

To provide a National award for surf instructors covering; fitness, practical lifeguarding skills & knowledge, managing surf lessons from a safety stand point, rescue, life support & first aid.

Pre- Requisite Surf Coach Rescue:
Be a minimum of 16 years of age on the date of examination
Be able to swim 400m in under 8min. (candidates should be able to complete this before attending the course).
Be able to handle a rescue board in surf conditions.

12 months from the date of the examination

This Surf Coach Rescue Award establishes a standard that allows candidates to complete the safety aspects for working as a surf instructor and is Internationally Recognised.

Surf Coach Safety:

To provide a National award for surf instructors covering; fitness, practical lifeguarding skills & knowledge, managing surf lessons from a safety stand point, rescue, life support & first aid.

Pre- Requisite Surf Coach Safety:
Be a minimum of 16 years of age on the date of examination
Be able to complete a 100m run followed by a swim of 200m in open water and followed by another 100m run
Be able to swim 200m in under 5min. (candidates should be able to complete this before attending the course).
Be able to handle a rescue board in surf conditions.

VALIDITY OF Surf Coach Safety Courses & Award

12 months from the date of the examination

This Surf Coach Safety Award establishes a standard that allows candidates to complete the safety aspects for working as a surf instructor as part of a group - (you will not be allowed to take a surf lesson as an individual unless you have the surf coach rescue or above) and is Internationally Recognised.

The course is held over 4 days of training plus 1 day examination by SLSGB Examiners. The course includes a fitness test involving a  timed swim of 200m, that must be completed in 5min. Candidates must be able to achieve this before attending the course.

Cost: £225 including assessment fee. The course fee does not include SLSGB membership you will need to become a member of SLSGB to attend this course. Once you've signed up for the course you'll receive a membership link.
